Depends on if you want to classify Social Security as welfare.

If you do, then benefit is a strong word.  If you want to say that living
as a middle lower low class citizen is better than a lower  low class
citizen, then yes.  The amount was so paltry that it's removal would have
been noticeable but overcome-able.

Ahhh.  You are missing the point completely.  The point is:  The survey
indicates that 24% of the people believe welfare has created a class of
people who do not aspire to move out of the rut.

No where does it blame anyone for any economic woes.
