my kiddos have all gone through Montessori education and were taught math in a very similar manner to common core. My oldest ended up skipping Algebra 1 once she got into middle school and has maintained a 96 average all year.
If you've seen the "New Math" photo that's been endlessly circulated, people seem to understand it better once I relate it to counting back changed to someone. It's really a very natural way of doing math.
