BT always hits the nail squarely. ;-) The problem with the police profession is that it attracts two types of people- the first becomes a cop because they want to help people and better their community. The second becomes a cop because they want to carry a gun, drive faster than the speed limit and have power over others. In Alaska they have a personality test for State Trooper eligibility - if you have any indications of being a yahoo-cop, then you won't be approved. Sadly, Anchorage has no such test, so several "yahoo" type guys mike knows who failed the personality test for the Troopers are now muni cops. Sadly, even the "good cops" become jaded and pessimistic after awhile. It really kind of sucks.
