Of course, to play devil's advocate (and perhaps give Beth the benefit
of the doubt) it could play a part.

The mind is powerful and I'm sure that somebody could choose to lead a
homosexual lifestyle (there's that word again), but not, in fact be
homosexual (although common as people think this is/was common enough in
stressful situations like prison and extended isolation).

However, and let me stress this, such a choice doesn't make somebody a
homosexual. By the same token somebody who is intuitively attracted to
the same sex, but chooses a heterosexual lifestyle is still a
homosexual.

The point being that your thoughtless urges, your gut attractions are
very difficult to choose. They may be the result of nature or nuture
(or both) and are something you may hide, but are not something that you
can choose to change.

Do you like legs? Butts? Eyes, ears, toes or toungues? Now try to
choose NOT to like them... It's not something that we do easily.

As are most of my friends. I also people close to me that spent many
years in heterosexual relationships but are now out of the closet... In
all cases that I've heard this is a decision to "follow their hearts"
(or, if you prefer a more base interpertation, their genitalia).

But there are ALWAYS shades of grey. I've known people that admittedly
prefer hetersexual sex, but cannot find happiness in hetersexual
relationships and of course there are cases where the opposite is true.
