Imp up for the challenge, but I've been there for the past year and a half.
A year an a half ago my wife joined WW. A couple of weeks after she joined I had my annual physical and stepped on the scales at a whopping 320lbs. I damn near fainted. When I left college I was 190lbs and within 2 months of my first body building competition (blew my shoulder out and have never been able to train since). After that I decided to join WW too. When I hopped on the scales there the scale groaned and stopped at 351lbs. At 32 and 351, I was in total shock and stood there for what must have been 10 minutes arguing with the WW lady that her scales were wrong. Over the first year at WW I lost 45 pounds which isn't to bad, considering my 8 year old daughter weighs the same amount. WW does a really good job of forcing you to look at what and how much you are putting in your mouth. It takes an hour in the gym to burn off a piece of pizza. In Nov past I started taking Kenpo Ju Jitsu lessons 6 days a week. Since then I've lost another 22 lbs. Thankfully I have converted some amount of body weight into muscle. I know this because every muscle in my body aches after each class. But its that good ache, the one that comes from moving your butt. I'm now down to 284, but my goal is to get back to that 190, so only 94 more pounds to go. Cheers and good luck! I don't eat crappy, but I eat what I want, and I still lose weight. I assume many of the CF-Community people are like me, spending a large amount of time behind a computer each day, eating large portions of just about anything that passes for food each day for lunch, and utterly deficient when it comes to exercise. Given that it is the lenten season and I am supposed to be giving something up anyway, I am going to work consciously to change my habits as a tribute to those who have to change theirs. I am going to eat healthier and get more exercise. Tonight when I get home I am going to lift some weights (I would do cardio but I already walk half an hour each day as it is), for dinner I am going to have a grilled chicken breast and some broccoli, and I am probably going to just have a salad for lunch. Tomorrow I will repeat this process, and will do so everyday until I feel I have really changed my ways. And the snacks, the Famous Amos cookies my company provides developers for free and somehow make their way to my desk each afternoon, nixed. That's my pledge, anyways. I don't really want to think about what my arteries look like, or what they are going to look like in 10 years. With a little determination, I am confident I can drop about 10-20 pounds in the process. Anyone else up for such a challenge? I am sharing my thoughts in the hope that some other people feel strong enough to want to make a change in their lives. If that is the case, I will be willing to organize this effort and put up a community Web site where we can all track our results, post tips / links / other stuff.
