Mike-

WW is simply a reduced calorie diet that rewards you for low fat / high
fiber foods, and penalizes you for high fat / low fiber foods.
They emphasize eating more fresh vegetables and fruits, drinking a lot of
water (good for metabolism and flushing stuff out of the body).
And the group meetings provide tips, motivation, group support, and often
good q&a sessions.
Plus, you get weighed every week to a tenth of a pound, keeps you honest.
When we were last there, everything translated to "points".
Based on my weight, I was allowed 28 to 35 points a day.
I could tell the points of any food by using a slide-rule calculator
against the label info.

Unlike the diet programs that feed you (e.g. Jenny Craig), WW teaches you
how to eat sensibly.
And there are a lot of really delicious recipes in their cookbooks.
It's not "crappy food".

And, if I wanted to say "hell, for this meal I'm going to have whatever I
want", ok, I could do that.
The week's loss might be less, but if I just swallowed that <g> and went on
with the program it was only a small speed bump on the road to weight loss.

When I was fairly diligent at WW and did some brisk walking, my weight loss
averaged 1.5 pounds per week.
This is quite healthy - anything over 2 pounds a week for a length of time
supposedly isn't good for you, and your body reacts defensively to it.
