No need to take such an extreme stance. "The concept of union" is near and dear to my heart as well. Reformation of the presidential election process does not have to be a death knell to it, however. In fact it doesn't even have to be antithetical to it. Personally I feel that it would alter the results of the process very little (we've only had two cases, after all, where the popular vote and electoral college results were different). However it potentially may improve the public perception of the privilege/duty of voting. I "potentially" because it's only a hypothesis of course. Any change of such magnitude (should such a thing come to pass) would have to be carefully studied, considered and reviewed.
