Straightforward sincerity works on the very highest quality women. Do what I did: ask if you could talk with her for a moment, tell her that you are very attracted to her, and say you wondered if you might take her to dinner to get to know each other better.
If she is currently seeing someone but you sense that he isn't seriously in her heart, smile kindly and say "you really got to me--I just had to ask," leave her your card and ask her to call you if her situation changes, and then go home. As soon as you walk through the door, immediately send her a hernia-busting bouquet of stargazer lillies with an attached card that reads "Then how about lunch?" and has your first name and phone number on the back. On your first date, ask her all about herself and what her hopes and dreams are in life, ask about her parents, ask about her childhood, ask about her goldfish. Ask about what's important to her. Always be a proper gentleman, take her hand in yours and say goodnight, telling her how much you enjoyed taking her out and getting to know more about her. Call her the next day and ask for the privilege of a second date. This may seem about a thousand years old, but it worked so well for me that I recently celebrated my tenth anniversary (twelve years together). Life is very short and you don't want to waste any time on someone you wouldn't want to marry.
