Dear Jonathan, It was not clear to me whether a **dimension coordinate variable** should be considered as a form of **data variable** or a disjoint category of variable, so I'm happy to accept your interpretation (I don't think there is anything to draw on in NUG). I think there is some inconsistency of usage in the section on feature types, where it is insisted that all data variables should have the feature type declared in the `featureType` global attribute (in section 9.4 -- section 9.1 has different phrasing: that all features should have the declared `featureType`).
There is a slight problem, I think, with Appendix A and the **Use** column: this column uses `C` for dimension coordinate variable and `D` for variables containing non-coordinate data, but usage in the examples of the convention and the CF checker suggests that the intention is that `D` should stand for variables which are neither **dimension coordinate variables** nor **grid mapping variables**. Do you have a better interpretation of Appendix A? Martin -- You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread.
