I agree completely. And that was my point, actually. You could get the same result in fairly simple and straightforward fashion. In fact for that app I'll have to use some form of that whether I use FB or not, as these items are user-modifiable from a web form, so unless I want to go and write to text files and read from them the setting has to come from db query output. >Can you provide some concrete example of "basic problems" you have >experienced while using Fusebox? I have not encountered anything major, >but that is not to say they do not exist. I mean this in all honesty, I >like knowing what challenges may lie ahead. My knee-jerk response is to ask "Why do I need 1500 lines of code to make an application work?" I speak of the core FB files. I'm working right now on seeing if I can understand enough about this to write a quick GridMonger port, and I'm not sure if that whole app uses 1500 lines of code. >> its just flat out overblown in toto >What portions do you find overblown? See my knee-jerk response above. I know I'm being simplistic, but as I said I think that's more than the whole app comprises at the moment. Also I tend to agree with Dave's points, as well as the ones Shawn just made in his post; if you have disciplined code FB can be construed as a solution in search of a problem, as CFML is a language that lends itself to immediate understanding when coded by someone with good habits and org skills. Since I've never, ever been happy with GridMonger's coding style, and it's a relativley small project, it seems a good place for a rookie's testbed. If I have enough time to get something coded I'll bench it against its predecessor to see if there are performance benefits or penalties.
