thanks my kind of program:
Fix 12, for 12 significant digits or fix 16, or fix 32, or fix 48 etc and let the computer take care of things. Sure, changing slowly converging series to integrals is often a quick and easy way out, but integrals in J I am sure is a challenge. Or i can look up the answers in wolfram or the other internet sites that list results to very many decimal places but that is too easy. This computer as set up (capitalizes my name, not my doing, ex wife probably or my son) and for some reason does not return the previous emails. I read math and stats and other books and wikipedia by topics, preferably small topics, preferably via the index, computer books and manuals I like fat with great Index and many slowly progressing examples, I also just like to look up a current question, so the idea of working through books and references and exercises and such would be a new and unnatural enterprise for an old dog. I always dreamed of a math/stats/graphing computer program that does it all. Mathematica and such at times suggested $2 k a year and $ .2 k a year for updating sort of thing, or $ .3 k for a home edition by another provider. What do you think of that? For now i guess i will reach for this or that machine or program or wolfram or J depending on the problem I want to look at. Ie the alternative things to J you don't want to hear about but that logically come to mind in trying to solve a particular math or stats or physics problem. I am in awe of you fellow and real and pro J ers and your professionalism and kindness and voluminous replies and it is inspiring. (If I should want to aggravate any J er, i will ask for a proper installation onto my small devices. But I rather suspect that future editions will take care of proper installations and easy updating. Yes, i dream of J on i pad devices) thanks and yes, apologies D ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
