Could be they have the picture reversed or the picture is really a small block pan.  My GM book shows all 65-71 BBC Chevelle, most Camaro, Chevy II, and 65-66 Pass. pans to be the same replacement part number.  There IS a different part number for 67-70 Passenger car pans.  In the latest Summit book, looking at a Milodon pan (pg 48) for 64-90 big Chevy, the dip stick is on the passenger side.

Subject: [Chevelle-List] oil pan

Hey Guys,

I hope you guys can help me. I want to replace the oil pan on my 67 396. The dipstick on my present pan is on the passenger side. However, all the oil pans I have seen in various catalogues show the dipstick mounting hole on the driver’s side. Which is the correct side?   The pan is supposed to fit all 65-70 big blocks. Did they change sides sometime during those years? Any help would be great.

Fred
