Title: Re: [Chevelle-list] domed hood on Malibu?/instant purchases
Here in KY when you acquire a another car without trading one in at the same time you have no coverage at all until you do the paperwork If you just finished your restoration and the car is ready to drive you have no coverage unless you have done the paperwork. The automatic coverage for a replacement or temporary substitute starts when you acquire the new car. If you have owned it for a while your 10 days or 30 days or whatever your state allows are probably already long gone. Don't take a chance, do the paperwork before you drive it.

In Washington state you have 15 days to get it insured and registered in your name, you’re covered until the 15 day mark.  I don’t know if that’s the same in all states.

They can't drive it away until it's insured under their name, and that can't happen until after they buy it. Anybody who is coming from out of state and trying to make the transaction happen in one day is not legit. That's just not how it works and these guys know that.

I might be a bit late responding, but this is true.  Anyone who wishes to show up and buy a car and drive it away should be prepared to do a wire transfer from his bank account directly to yours.  He can tell his bank ahead of time what he is up to and so can the seller, and then the buyer can show up and drive the car make the deal and go with the seller to his bank an initiate the wire transfer.  These things take time.  It can be done within a few hours or a day, but having to stay overnight is not unusual and both sides should be prepared for that possibility.  Showing up with the cash means the guy is serious but if he’s going to present a negotiable instrument the car and title should not be delivered until your bank has confirmed clearance.
Been there, done that.  Ed
