I did, what could be called "reverse crate trainning".  I fed Minnie in the crate, then made her stay in the crate till she went potty. As soon as she did, which after eating  was usually a short time. Then I would praise her, let her out of the crate and give her a doggie treat. Now the crate door is left open, except when she is eating, and it is the only place she goes potty. Worked great for us. She has toys hung on the side of her crate that gave her something to play with untill she went potty. I also hung a water bottle on the side and for her to get a drink. .

That is what I figured.  I am still reading about crate training. So far it seems that you feed the pup in the crate, take them out to potty, they sleep in the Kennel until trained.  Is this about right?

congrats on the new furbaby. Mt new pups are always in an x pen until they are potty trained. 3 of my chis sleep with me, but they did not do that as pups. The bed is a privilege for the fully housebroken, lol. I think crate training is the best way to go, jmo

Hi, I am a new member and a new owner of a long hair male Chi. We will be
getting him Sat 11/04/06. He will be 9 weeks old. It has been a long time
since we have owned a small dog. We now have a rotweiller/doberman mix named
dasha, who is 10. She is a big big baby LOL
I have wanted a long hair chi for years but have only been able to make it
possible recently thanks to a good breeder friend and more time at home.
This is a question for anyone.
When you first got your chi and were trying to housetrain the pup, what were
the sleeping arrangements? Do any of your dogs sleep in your bed? We are
leaning towards crate training.

Sheila
