Also, don't forget to mention that confining to the crate is limited to times
of housebreaking and possibly when a younger pup can not be fully supervised.
Crate training is not using a crate confinement for a long period of time, it
is something that is done for a few months or so in order to train a
puppy......unlike chaining a dog, which is often a lifetime thing.....But, many
chi owners find that once the training is complete, if they leave the crate
door open, most chis tend to prefer to go into the crate even on their own. It
becomes their "den". I use a carrier and my adult chis still go into the
carrier to sleep...the door is off.....The pup on the other hand, her carrier
has a door that is kept closed with her confined inside when I am gone.
