Personally, I do not remove dew claws. There are cases where dew claws have
been caught on something and torn and the pain from that can be really bad, but
in most chis I have seen, it is rare that it happens, and to me the risk is
small enough that it does not justify the removal. Of course, that is just my
opinion. I have only had one that did tear the dew claw, but it wasn't a bad
tear and I was able to treat it myself. I am the type of person that would not
dock tails, ears, ect in breeds that it is the standard for. I don't see a
purpose for removing a part of the body that God put there just because humans
think it looks better. Of course dew claws are a different story since they CAN
be injured, but like I said, in most chis, the risk is small. For some breeds,
it is a different story.

Some of my chis have only one set of dew claws and some have two. :-)

Do not tell God how big your storm is. Tell the storm how big your God is.

Some say remove others say don't remove. All dogs I have had before were
poodles and they always had their dew claws removed (shortly after birth). I
just worry because I've heard him yelp when he's gotten the dew claws caught in
his blanket, finally got him another kind of blanket. He also has gotten
them caught in the mesh of his carry bag.
