Christine. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you
and your family. It is always hard to loose a pet, but to loose one in this
manner always seems so much more devastating.

Yes, I have been there many times. When I first moved here, my Cookie got hit
by a car. Thankfully, it didn't kill her, but it completely knocked her eye
out....my mom said it looked like a long hot dog with an eye stuck on the end.
Although I was 30 years old at the time, she wouldn't let me see Cookie. She
took her to the vet. Cookie lost the eye but she lived. I immediately had my
backyard fenced in! I told them make it top priority!! That didn't help...she
dug out from under. I tried everything before finally confining her to a
runner. Then, this past New Years eve, she got loose again, and ran to the
road. My son and I chased her up and down the road. I in my truck flashing
lights to warn cars...my son in the middle of the road trying to stop traffic.
A car hit her and I can still see it very clearly....both my son and I observed
her getting hit. I will spare you the details, but the car kept going...they
didn't even know if they had hit a dog or my son!!

I also had one, Chip, that would get out of the fence while I was gone, but
would always run back in before I got home.....He would put himself up, lol. I
gave him a spanking one day for getting out. He was hurt at me, so he ran. I
looked for him for hours. Finally found him laying dead on the side of the road
right in front of my house...he was trying to come home.

Neither of these were chis......I have never lost a chi this way....but it
doesn't matter the breed, they touch your heart just the same. You may go
through the emotions of being angry, feeling guilty, depressed......all the
normal steps of grieving. Yes the pain lessens, but they will always remain in
your heart. Sending up prayers that God wrap his comforting arms around you and
your family.

Marsha

Subject: [Chihuahuas] I lost my chi today to being hit by a car, anyone ever
had that happen?

I just wanted to know if anyone ever lost a dog to being hit by a
car, or even worse,if anyone went looking for their missing dog,to be
the one to find him/her on the road? THis has been very
heartbreaking. I noticed Sugar was missing today, and knew she must
have slipped out the door and ran off. She had a bad habit of doing
that. We live in a culdisac and rent a house. I thought about buying
  a radio fence thingy..but they're expensive,and so havn't done it
yet. Well, I found her,and she had already passed away. THis is not
the first dog I have ever had. We had quite a few,and i didn't like
any of them, but a german shepard...anyway this one was different. She
loved us and we all would fight over who got to sleep with her :) .
My son (10)kept asking to have the cats to slep with, since he
couldn't slee pwith Sugar tonight. He is really quiete, and I know hes
not happy, but he is doing a god job at hiding his feelings. My 4yr
old is angry with me(he has to be angry at someone),and I have been
crying since 8pm. I dont want people to feel sorry for me,I just
wanted to hear that others have gone though this, because I know many
people do ,but this is the first time for me. thanks for
reading.christine p.s.sugar would have been 2 this november. She was
5lbs,and would go potty outside. she went to the door to tell s when
she had to go. When we asked her, shed turn around in circle really
fast 2-3times,and run to the door. She slept with me&my husband,or my
10yr old. if the doorbell rang,or someone walked thru the door, she
would excessively bark. WHen the mailman drives by,she barks.
Tomorrow I wont know when the mailman comes.
