Mare, I am not trying to say that older pups will not still nurse
occassionally. When Ginger had her last litter two weeks after her
daughter had a litter, I would find Ginger still nursing Cayenne's pups
when they were almost 4 months old!! Some dogs do enjoy the whole process
and will drag it out...Ginger would nurse anything that will nurse her and
will grin from ear to ear while doing it, lol......I am seen some continue
to try to nurse at 6 months old.....that is NOT what I was trying to
say......but you will see momma dogs trying to get away from pups...they
start to snap at them, they get frustrated, ect.....All I was trying to
say is that it is a good time to separate them....when everyone is
"wanting" to separate.......be4cause after a while, that same momma, who
two weeks before wanted her pups far away...starts to develope a different
type of relationship...they become members of her family...her
friends,,,,,someone she will now miss badly when they are gone......there
is a small window of opportunity, when pups and momma can more easily say
"goodbye"
