This is true, but then you never have a copy for yourself that way. I get
copies and then I can always make another copy if I want to switch Vets
again, or if I had to travel I would have my own, instead of waiting for a
Vet to mail me one and possibly charge me all over again for more copies.

The records actually belong to you.
Please check first to see if it is the same as for human doctors. If you
ask for copies of the records, they may charge you; professional courtesy
usually provides that your old vet will send the new vet the records for no
charge.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Changing Vets
Hi everyone, I know you all know I have been having to take Smidgen to the
vets re: her heart problems. I have decided to change my vet that I have
been using for last 9 years. They have recently re model the office and it
seems clients are paying for it.. The prices have gone through the roof! My
situation is I want to take Smidge to another vet, so will my old vet give
me all my records of the dogs?
