Thanks for the response Mhenriday. The only thing I've changed recently is that I reverted to using Google Sync for my bookmarks. I deleted the XMarks extension prior to doing this.
So, I'm wondering if it's Google Sync doing this on startup .... I notice that selecting any bookmark on the toolbar; there is a significant delay before the focus works.
