The whelping nest (with thanks to Myra) is one of my best investments,
however I never let the puppies lay directly on it, as I worry it could cause
"swimmers."  I put a light weight soft cotton blanket over it.  I had it
built into a whelping box.  It has saved several puppies for me along with my
"bird" incubator, I have a perfect nursery.
