Phyllis twisted my arm so much I finally bought a whelping nest for my last
litter. Before they were born I put down newspapers so I could clean up between
puppies, but once they were born I took the papers out and they stayed on the
plain plastic surface. I've never had such a contented litter, mom and pups.
When they were a couple of days old I set up a box upstairs with heat pad on one
side, fleeces, etc, so they (and I) could sleep upstairs but they were so fussy,
nobody could settle, I packed them all up and put them back on the nest
downstairs and all breathed a sigh of relief and immediately went to sleep.
I did start putting smallish fleeces in after 10 days or so so they could get a
better footing without getting too buried.
Took it out at around 3-4 weeks when the raised floor permitted one of the babes
to climb out of the box.
