For many reasons Laura stated, it is a task that is quite large to undertake.
Educating people that what? puppymill/broker/pet store cavaliers are far
more prone to genetic and other diseases than the average breeders cavalier?
What are that stats? And what breeders cavaliers? the very small percent of
what is considered "reputable breeders" or the 75% of the rest of the
breeders? How much healthier is the average backyard bred cavalier than the
average puppmill/broker/petstore cavalier?

And when the average breeder has to say no to a prospective home (for many
many reason... that's not the point) what do you think the person does then?
they probably don't say "oh? well, i'll go to my local shelter and save a
poor little mixed breed dog" no? they go and go until they get a cavalier.
Most people have their minds made up and as many inquiries as you get, there
are probably cavaliers in each of their homes by now.

But... that doesn't mean you don't just forge ahead and continue to educate.
Of the lucky few that "do" get a puppy from a reputable breeder, they are the
best advertisement for how to buy a puppy. Depending on how happy they are
with the breeder and the pup, they will share their experience with everyone
around them, and so on and so forth, so your educating efforts go far beyond
the one person you think you got through to... it compounds and multiplies.
And another thing, even if someone has a bad experience with a breeder, I've
yet to hear anyone say, "gee? that puppy i waited forever for was sick and
riddled with genetic defects, I will go to the backwoods of the midwest and
find myself one from one of those places off the side of a dirt road next
time, or pick one up at the mall" no, i've never heard that? I have seen
them turn around and try again, looking for another breeder. So once bitten,
they will return, and they do learn. And many return to the same breeder as
we begin to learn about disease and understand some things are not a
guarantee in life, and after all the effort, bad things can still happen in a
good breeders line.

So, the "in a nutshell" from a non-breeder is just keep educating your
buyers, your callers, and anyone else who asks, it "does" get through, even
if it doesn't get back to you personally, people do begin to absorb what they
hear over and over again...
