I have found this to be true even among my own relatives. My nephew and his
wife, (whom I don't see often and they weren't aware that I had Cavaliers),
bought a Cavalier from a Texas puppy broker. They didn't care who it was
registered with, they just wanted a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. It was
imported from Ireland, had papers, (a faded copy hardly legible), from the
Irish Kennel Club, and IT WAS AVAILABLE for their daughter's birthday.

The puppy arrived with an upset tummy. They fell in love with him. Bailey
became sicker. They took him to the emergency Vet. He did tests. They took
him to the regular Vet. More tests. They changed Vets. More tests. Bailey
developed a cough. He's on his third round of antibiotics and may have to
have more testing. They love him. They have spent thousands on the Vet care
for Bailey.

So how do you find a nice Cavalier for a nice family in the U.S.? It's pretty
difficult as most breeders do not advertise in the newspapers. The puppy
brokers do.

And if you do happen to find a good breeder in the U.S. you are usually put
on a waiting list. And many people do not want to wait a long time. So the
puppy broker and the puppymillers have a new client.

It might be nice if the local breed clubs would run an ad in the newspapers
with a puppy referral contact? What do you think?
