These shows do not have any validity anymore worldwide ...this is
>a reality...so it is a nice social event...but lets call it like it is...BUT
>it is folly to think you are seeing all of the best in the USA at these
>shows...but it makes "good press"!!!

Kathy,
I agree with much that you have said, but I take issue with the above
comment. How can you to say that our CKCSC shows and CKCSC champions do
not have validity worldwide. I completely disagree with that statement.
Although CKCSC is not the so called "recognized" club, it's champions
certainly hold validity in the Cavalier world. You say that we don't see
the "great" dogs all on one place anymore....again, I disagree. When I
attend a CKCSC show the depth of quality is usually very high in the
160-200 dogs that are typically shown and when my girl has won a spec limit
blen class with 20 beautiful bitches and then goes on to become RWB over 80
or 90 bitches, I certainly feel that her win is a valid win.
Kathy, not all people feel that they are being unethical belonging to both
groups and they are content with the choices that they make. I agree with
you that there are change agents in the world, and thank goodness for
that...but on the other hand, there are a good number of us who just enjoy
our hobby for what it is. I participate in both venues and dual register
my dogs...but CKCSC is my choice of dog clubs, so I will adhere to the code
of ethics that is in place until the day is changed. Do I feel
cheated...no, because it is my choice. I feel that there are a good number
of dogs that are dual registered that my choices are wide enough in
breeding that I don't feel that I am not making good decisions in breeding.
I don't like to travel 4 hours each way to an AKC show to spend 15 minutes
in the ring with what I have seen to be questionable judging. However, if
I lived in an area that had a lot of AKC shows, then I would probably be
more active in that club...again, that is my choice but it is not a choice
that I labor over. I have friends that belong only to AKC and willingly
adhere to their code or rules..that is their choice..neither choice is good
or bad...just a personal choice.
The both clubs exist and a good majority of breeders belong to or register
their dogs with both clubs. Each club has something different to offer and
I still feel that a CKCSC champion certainly holds validity, in this
country and abroad, especially given that the majority of the judges are
breeder/judges from the UK. In a perfect world, it would be wonderful if
both clubs could continue and work together without all of the animosity,
but the hurt feelings on both sides of the table obviously are still very
deep and perhaps rightfully so. I will say however that this has been the
most positive and mature discussion that I have seen on this subject in all
my years of owning this list and previously moderating the Hoflin list and
I see this as a very positive step.
Kind regards,
Kim
