Sorry -
As a registering body, the CKCSC USA was NOT in place first. They
were formed by a group of Cavalier breeders and owners when the breed was
new to this country and they wanted to apply for AKC recognition. Because
there were not enough numbers of them, they were accepted by the AKC in
miscellaneous class only where they remained for 28 years. The INITIAL
intention of the CKCSC USA was to achieve AKC recognition. As the years
went on and they "ran their own show" so to speak - their attitudes
changed. They still used AKC for obedience titles (which I never understood
- I couldn't determine a reasonable explanation why they didn't make some
rules and have their own obedience titles just as they had their own
championships) but as their numbers increased and they enjoyed being able
to control their own registrations and stud book and the "power" their
board had, their original goal to be a part of the AKC changed and they
would have preferred to remain autonomous. That would have been fine except
that once the AKC decided there were enough Cavaliers to be a recognized
breed, the rest of the world, who recognized CKCSC USA only because they
were the main registering body in this country, immediately had to honor
their reciprocal agreement with the AKC to recognize AKC as the official
registering group just as AKC recognizes the national organizations in
other countries. The AKC was here first.....it is only that cavaliers were
not a part of them except peripherally.
