Hi, Laura,
        While I find that CKCSC USA shows are lovely to attend, I often see the
exact same dogs at them as I do in AKC shows. Both Nationals are well
attended and generate interest in bringing together dogs from all over
the country.  Perhaps one does feel the need to compete with good dogs;
one can do so in lesser groups if they are the same dogs. If one beats,
say, Andreas (dream ON! LOL.....he was here showing locally last month;
just a super dog), then one has beaten a real champion. Does it really
matter that the surrounding dogs were also in the ring as mediocre as
ARE some of them in both venues?
        THAT being said, most of us who are in CKCSC, USA CANNOT attend all of
their shows as it has been extremely cost prohibitive to fly around the
country to campaign a CKCSC, USA prospective champion. We have ONE show
a year within driving distance; chances of finishing our dogs at that
show each year are...LOL....extremely slim. "Cavaliers of the
NORTHeast" has become "Cavaliers of the 'Nearsouth"; all of the shows
that used to be within several states from us have gone. We have
Waterbury, Ct. left in the whole true NORTHeast. I am told that the
reason for this has been low entries. I expect that with several noted
exceptions entries ARE lower. Regional clubs are rearranging shows
together to "clump" entries in places where they are likely to get
them. If you don't live in the mid-atlantic states where a large
cluster of breeders live, shows are no longer accessible.

If you have children, if you have ANY job, if you cannot afford to leave
your dogs for four to five days each month, you can't campaign
*seriously* in CKCSC, USA. It is more expensive than specialing a dog
Nationally in AKC WITH a handler! (Though we owner handle, I did
calculate costs once out of curiosity).

And I am of average income. Imagine someone who shows dogs on a serious
budget? Yes, the dog fancy is expensive, but even the well to do must
work! I guess it is fine if one is retired or has no
children..........perhaps that is why there ARE so few children at
CKCSC, USA shows. (I've never seen children's handling exceed a class
of four).

That is not to say that the one or two shows a year we CAN attend are
not enjoyed; we do very much like to see our friends.
