Ok, I have monitored this list for over a year, but have rarely posted. But I need advice.
Our sweet girl, Carrie is in whelp. She had 7 puppies in her first litter. She delivered her first at noon and her last at 10:30 PM. We took her to the vet for one Oxcetocen (misspelled) injection and would have taken her for another later, but couldn't reach anyone. We lost 3 of the puppies for different reasons. The last one was stillborne, She ran a fever between 102 and 103 for about 10 days and was on antibiotics. Her puppies ranged in weight from 4 5/8 oz to 6 1/4 oz. She dropped her fever completely on the 10th day and was fine. The remaining 4 puppies were very vigorous and gained rapidly. Now here is the problem. She is three weeks out from her due date and is already very large. Larry thinks he can hear 7 or 8 heartbeats, but we don't know. We do believe this will be another big litter. Our vet is taking the entire office on a Cancun cruise the day before her due date!. We will be alone without our life line. She is so special to us and we are hovering parents. And my confidence level is zilch. We have also recently moved and do not know any local breeders that could help. What are your thoughts on a c-section if she does not deliver before they leave? What are your thoughts on a c-section anyway because of the litter size and her last litter? What about aftercare?? We live in a rural area and are about 45min to 60 min from an emergency clinic. And my confidence in an emergency clinic is also zilch.
