> In my opinion, if you want a puppy back from a bitch you "sell", > it is more fair to sell the bitch for a much lower price or better still, > take no money. Just have a co-ownership until you get your puppy.
I don't understand why someone would ask for a free puppy back! If you want a puppy back--why not buy it! The whole puppy back scheme seems so silly to me. I do co-own puppies with new or new-to-Cavalier breeders--but for entirely different reasons. I get no monetary gain whatsoever. I encourage them to make their own decisions. I carefully choose whom to sell to. But I still co-own for a period of time just in case that new person ignorantly makes a poor decision. If I co-own I will be at least somewhat allowed to try to stop them from making that poor decision. However, I have to admit there have been times when I had the opposite problem. Some have wanted to continue to co-own, wanted me to make all the decisions, sell the puppies, show their dogs--all they did was collect the money. One time it went on for 5 years. I explained to that person that I had only co-owned in the beginning so I would have some control over what was done with the dog until that person had learned enough to go off on her own. And that I expected her to be learning so that eventually she could do this independently of me. She didn't want to! At one point she finally admitted breeding and showing were not her thing and she quit. Anyway, will someone explain why they would want to get a puppy back--for free? And what is wrong with getting that same puppy by paying for it! That person bought the puppy from you in the first place--if you want more money--why not charge more for the puppy!
