Liz - I just imported a dog from England and the Breeder used a "Shipper" with whom I was very much impressed. There were 2 dogs being shipped on the same trip, a 1 1/2 year old and a 7 month old. For each he MADE an appropriate size crate out of wood. Not fancy but clean and new. The bottom was lined with folded newspaper and then there was about a 3 inch layer of shredded newspaper (not torn, but like it had been put through a shredder - very neat). A water dish was strapped inside the crate with those plastic ties electricians use and there was a little funnel on the OUTSIDE of the crate, aiming at the dish so it could be refilled without opening the crate. Very cleaver I thought. Both dogs came through with flying colors and only the younger dog had peed. She was clean and dry when we picked them up though, and I dare say, happy to get out! FWIW
