Even though this thread was about Goldens when it started, I would like to
respond to this.

I agree with most of it. There is a difference between the *average* AKC
Cavalier and the *average* CKCSC Cavalier, but the good dogs of both are
still of a similar type. I, too, find that the average AKC Cavalier is more
refined and I also believe it has more leg. Not so sure about a size
difference though as CKCSC has been on a small binge of late as well.

Since I breed to do well in CKCSC, it is quite hard to also do well in the
AKC--at least around here. My dogs have been accused of being too short in
leg and being too extreme in the AKC--the same dogs that are considered to
excel in type in CKCSC.

It would be nice to have a list of judges eligible to judge Cavaliers and
invite those judges who live near each CKCSC specialty to attend. We could
serve them a meal and have them sit inside the ring and then let them
discuss the winners with the judge at the end. Funny thing is though, the
AKC judges do a pretty good job when judging CKCSC specialties. Once they
are faced with a class of 10-20 Cavaliers they can *see* what the proper
type is and are able to judge correctly. But how do we get them to transfer
that *eye* to the tiny AKC shows where there may be only 10-15 Cavalier in
total, and so many are not typey that they tend to pick the structurally
sound Cavaliers that look most like the *average* on the day? It may not be
all that easy until there are many more Cavaliers entered at each AKC show.

I know of some owner handled CKCSC champions (handled very well) that have
an extremely hard time finishing in the AKC, whereas the dogs who do not do
as well in CKCSC but are owned and handled by those same people do extremely
well in the AKC.

Makes it hard to do both and be successful at both. Of course if your area
is very strong in dual shown dogs it isn't a problem, but if your area is
predominantly AKC only dogs--it is a big problem.
