You'd be surprised how many brokers have learned to "talk the talk". I don't
remember if it was on this list or one of the other dog lists I am on where I
recently read that one of these people actually borrowed children from someone
in order to pass themselves off as a nice family. In my own breed there was a
woman who was a well respected show person...dressed to the nines, dogs shown in
impeccable condition etc. No one ever thought twice about selling her a good
show pup. It wasn't until word got around that she never let anyone visit her
home and kennel set up tat people began to realize she'd been buying dogs from
everyone and that she had over 100 dogs different breeds, mostly Goldens but
Cavaliers too. Many of these dogs were never seen or heard from again when their
breeders tried to buy them back. I believe she is "collecting" birds now.

There is only one sure fire way to make sure you are not fooled by a broker or
future byb when screening and that is telling the buyer that all pets are spayed
and neutered before they go home period. Even if you don't agree with early
spay/neuter and have no intention on doing it, they don't need to know that. If
someone has an ulterior motive and they hear the dog will be altered before they
get it they will go elsewhere. Limited registration only means the pups won't be
registered with AKC. However, they can still be bred and registered with any
number of bogus registries.
