My theory on this is that markings are pretty much haphazard, BUT if you
consistently breed heavily marked dogs to heavily marked dogs you will get
more and more heavily marked dogs or if you consistently breed lightly
marked dogs to lightly marked dogs you will get less and less coloring on
your dogs.

I think all that matters is what type of markings is behind both tricolors
you are breeding to.  That will tell you what you will generally get.  But
again it is all based on an average of a large number of dogs produced.  Any
one litter can produce almost anything.
