I waited for over two years trying to get my first good example of the breed
in a female ruby or tri and during that time, narrower my preference to the
wholecolors. Before I got my dog, I went to shows, studied type, read books
and found out about all the health issues affecting the breed. I discovered
since the majority of show breeders have particolors, I was able to get my
foundation ruby from an excellent show/breeder (wins and producers her own)
who decided wholecolors were not her cup of tea! One breeder finally was
honest with me and told me if he had a tri female that met the breed
standard, he would keep her himself for show/breeding. That was over 8 years
ago and I think it is more difficult to get a either since we have more
information on health protocol. I am hoping for a ruby female to show in my
next litter due in Feb. If I get more than one, I would be willing to
share:). I am keeping my female tri to get started in the particolors and
would be happy to share a female in the future. It takes patience and luck
to get started.
