This IS interesting, indeed.  I do not think you learn to deal with the
child, I think you are just forced to put up with it knowing the child will
grow out of this behavior within a few months, whereas your little dog will
always be a problem barker.  This fact is what makes the difference along
with the fact that your child will need it's voice to say "Thank You" when
handed his/her degree from university.  Your dog does not truly need his
voice at all if his occupation is being a loving companion.
