<<<<,since we pet owners are the only ones not motivated by greed or ego WE are the ones who are TRULY interested in the welfare of the breed.>>>..
This statement is so absolute and far reaching that I can only think it was meant as a joke........... if, in fact, the writer was serious, then if have to say it is one of the most offensive things I have read on this list. To make such a sweeping assumption is staggering. I would think most of the breeders on this list sweat and strain, cry over lost puppies, love the comfort of that adoring gaze or the wild welcome when they come home, mourn their old dogs when they die. I have read with amazement the many posts of this continuing thread which started, I vaguely remember, about joining the ACKCSC and has diverged into a breeders versus pet owners debate. There is simply no such debate in the country where I live and I am dumbfounded that people could pursue such arguments. Surely most of us who take the time and trouble to participate on lists such as this one, do so simply because we are interested in and love Cavaliers. We need BOTH breeders and pet owners.......I hope that all of us realize that human nature being what it is, not everyone is perfect and that people do breed dogs for base motives............ why do you expect all breeders and all clubs to be "perfect', to be paragons of virtue? They are comprised of people, just like us with their virtues and failings. But the most important thing is that as least the AKC, the ACKCSC and the old CKCSCUSA are each in their own way trying to improve the standards of breeding dogs. Golly, you complain about the AKC and how it does nothing to stop puppy mills etc but it does miles more than our national controlling body in the ethical regulation of breeding dogs (DNA tests, kennel inspections etc) but people here don't seem to get so uptight about our controlling body's limited involvement. We simply get on with the job of breeding and showing our dogs, and trying to enrich people's lives with these wonderful dogs. For heavens sake, many of us have devoted the greater part of our lives and income to this breed. - I am grateful that even though I never seem to be able to pay off my vet's bill, the surgery still recommends me as a reputable breeder of healthy dogs to people inquiring about a Cavalier VBG And when people come back for a second and sometimes a third, then I suppose I must be doing something right even if my personal practices or the way we do things in this country don't meet with the approval of some of the people who are most vocal on this list. How about a little tolerance of people's different roles with the breed?
