Winnie, I love you, and have great respect for you. Please do not be offended at what I am about to say. Keeping a dog and loving a dog does make anyone truly interested in the welfare of the breed. I'll tell you what makes the cut off in my mind about how genuine a person is about the welfare of the breed. Testing and culling dogs that you have loved, and kissed and based the hopes of your kennel upon.....that is how one demonstrates interest in the welfare of the breed. Giving up a dog out of a breeding program because he has hip dysplasia, or retinal dyslasia or has produced one too many puppies with slipping patellae. Placing a dog that you have adored to make room for one in your home and your breeding program who has better health to offer the breed. There is no greed nor ego in making decisions like that; only heart ache and grief, and many years of missing your dog. Someone today made the statement that pet owners make it possible to enjoy the sport of breeding and showing. The opposite can be said as well. Breeders....with our faults, flaws, and mistakes have made it possible for pet owners to own cavaliers. Without the people who are breeding these dogs, none of you would have one. Myra Savant
