With all due respect, Phyllis. The letter to the judges did not address
only the issue of free baiting. It also addressed the issue of trimming and
alterating the dog. Up here where I live, the very worst of the exhibitors
that are trimming, bleaching, bluing and dying their dogs are CKCSC members,
NOT AKC only exhibitors. So.....yes, I would think it is high time for the
old club to address what is obvious to many of us ringside. AND...it isn't
the handlers up here who are walking into the ring with stark white dogs
that almost glow. It is the owner/handlers. And, they are winning in both
venues. Obviously, my opinions are formed by my own experiences. Also, my
comment about breeding age was referring to dogs, not bitches. CKCSC has no
rule about the appropriate breeding age of a dog. In fact, when you really
think about it......what kind of a code of ethics is it that allows you to
breed your one year old girl to your six month old boy? This is the code of
ethics that I am supposed to be all proud of? Some of my girls haven't had
their first season until they were over a year. Why do we all stand around
and act like a code of ethics that protects a girl only until she is one
year old, and protects a boy not at all is something fabulous? If CKCSC has
been putting pressure on the AKC to inspect breeders facilities, why in the
world haven't they been doing it themselves? Heaven knows, there are
breeders in CKCSC who are registering over 100 puppies in a year. If
inspection of the premises was so important to CKCSC, could they not have
done it at some time during their long history? Also, the AKC is not simply
inspecting puppy mills, they are coming to regular breeders....anyone who
produces over 7 litters a year, inspecting records and doing DNA testing on
every dog. Small breeders and puppy millers alike are being inspected.
It isn't that I am sitting around bad mouthing CKCSC. It is more that I am
tired of hearing all the pet owners discuss the evils of the AKC when they
clearly are not aware of the facts of either club. Myra Savant
