Sounds like you have what my Dad used to call "a Mexican standoff" with the gas company. Maybe you can call them and ask for a base reading and then call in your readings for the next twelve months and then another base reading. I guess I am suggesting a partial compromise or they need to make an appointment to see the meter? Utilities are very stubborn and sometimes you may need to find out who the guy at the top is and speak directly to them offering a personality conflict as the real problem instead of gas company policy. Going in the back door instead of hitting them head on at the front door. Good luck with your Gas company.
