Hello, Chris,
I like the cement pavers a lot. They are inexpensive (though a bit of
work to carry), can be either the grey, red or sometimes blue color,
dogs can't dig out of them and they keep the nails trimmed. The dogs
come in clean in all weather. One can shovel snow if they are laid
fairly level. Easy pick up of poop.
If your runs are way too large, then perhaps start as we did by doing
one half of them in the pavers as well as pavers around the edges, a few
slates down the middle and fill the rest with rounded small river
stone. Little by little we finished up doing the runs in pavers. As it
does get hot, I put out kennel deck (two or three pieces of it) in
summer so that they can get off of the pavers if they get hot.
The dogs clearly prefer the pavers to stone for footing.

Hope that this is helpful!

Suze
