Hi, Cathy,
Cement pavers are thicker than stepping stones and square. You can lay
them like big blocks of brick. They are heavier than slate and only one
of my dogs has been able to pull one up. I like them better than cement
as you can lay them without filling in between and allow for drainage
through the cracks between pavers. Therefore I can wash and bleach and
it is drained and dry quickly. Tricky to lay them; you will have to cut
(mallet and chisel) towards some of the edges unless you have a very
fortunate fit. Just like laying brick, I imagine. They come in brick
color which is what I used; look very nice indeed. Thanks to my husband
and son they went down in one day when we finally decided to do the
whole area of runs. Hot, heavy work, but well worth it.
Maintenance requres that you have a few extra so that you can move them
and fill in when the ground shifts. (Well, in New England at any rate
from frost to thaw).
If you have one that digs under fencing these are ideal for along the
fence; the dogs simply give themselves a manicure trying to dig. <G>
