Hi Suze,
Judges in junior handling are supposed to only judge the handling and
not the dogs. That's why spayed and neutered dogs are permitted to be shown
in juniors. A well trained family pet that is AKC registered will do just
fine. Many junior handlers have retired show dogs that for one reason or
another were not used in a breeding program and instead were neutered and
often given to the child.
