Hi,

I was there too and, out of curiousity, I pulled out the old Bulletin
and here are the bits I see regarding baiting:

In the general comments: "A morsel of food is a useful aid in
showing but over use of tit-bits distracts both dog & owner from
displaying the exhibit to advantage."

In the class comments: "Special Limit Blenheim Bitch (6) A bit
disappointing but a good winner. 1. Mostyn Cotton Ginny At BJ (...)
3 1/2 years. Very good make & shape: good head tho' I would prefer
a shorter nose. Showed well but with a constant tit-bit which
monopolized the exhibit and discouraged the judge."

Susan - I can't see where these comments indicated that this bitch
lost out on Best In Show due to baiting. By reading some of the
other comments, this judge seemed very happy with his final
winners. The dog that went Best In Show was a young Ravenrush
Tartan and the bitch winner and Reserve Best In Show was
Rutherford Jocelyn.

Another comment in the general remarks though: "Our Standard
forbids trimming: it was a pity to see a number of exhibits whose
feet had been unnecessarily and obviously trimmed." Can't blame
that on AKC as this was long before AKC recognition. <VBG>

Take care, Jackie
