I like the puppies with markings on the elbows too, and I know why.  They
appear to create an illusion of a more compact or cobby body/better length
of leg--even if the dog is not wonderfully endowed with these
characteristics.  So it can be a *lucky* elbow in many cases.  One of my
bitches is a tinch more up on leg than I prefer therefore I do not perceive
her outline and body type as my ideal.   On her
show side it is obvious this is so.  On her other side however, the red goes
right down past her elbow.  It truly seems to *hide* her lack of perfect
body/leg proportions unless I take a better look.    Sometimes having the
color down the elbow also creates an illusion of better shoulder layback as
well.  Markings can play tricks on our eyes, especially for those
individuals who are more right brained than left brained.
