There is a product called Anti Icky-Poo that is supposed to be the best product for removing pet odors in carpet. The website address is www.mistermax.com. You have to call their 800# to order it. They sell an injector also so you can get to the pad beneath. A behaviorist told me about this, as well as my cat's vet.
