Hi, I have redone my whole condo (except one room)in Wilsonart (www.wilsonart.com) and it is very similar to pergo, but looks nicer (more grainy woodlike looking)and is only a tiny bit more expensive. It also doensn't get dented or scratched and is a little hardier than Pergo.
drawbacks: Seems to be somewhat streaky when cleaned........like Pergo, you CANNOT use Bleach on it or amonia or abrasive cleaners, white vinigar seems to be a good way to clean it though. granted, i only have one cavalier but i do have a million cats (some fosters.......some mine) running around. MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the carpet for sure! I just saw marilyn's comments about pergo/wilsonart. I had mine professionally installed and don't find it to be noisey at all. No squeeking or anything.
