Hi Listers,
My name is Jody Mcdermott I am new to the list just
sitting back reading remarks from breeders.
   Webster's Dictionary says "Prospect-Something that
has the possibilty of future success". Maybe I take it
to literal.
I bought my first Cavalier 6yrs. ago hopeing for
something to show. I had been showing Mastiffs and had
two champions and wanted to go to a smaller breed. I did
all my homework and knew the standard by heart. My first
boy went way over size at 15 1/2 ins. No way of knowing
as a puppy did not blame the breeder. My next Cavalier
was a Blenheim bitch,nice head,good top line,good front
and rear, sound body. Only thing I could fault her on at
8wks. was to much white on body but this was a cosmetic
thing I could live with. She was bought as a show
prospect. At 6mons. I looked at her and thought what is
wrong with this picture. Her head was to small for her
body. Waited until she was a year and still to small, not
going to be a show dog. She has a very pretty head just
small.
I don't blame the breeder, there was no way of knowing
as a puppy and I had seen sire and dam and other dogs in
her line but things happen. The breeder and I didn't
have a crystal ball to tell what was going to happen
down the road. She has a very good pedigree and would
make a good breeding bitch. She had her first litter
last year and none of the pups have small heads at 7mos.
If she had a health issue it would have been different
but she has had all her health testing and passed.
I made the choice and was not pushed into buying her
and the breeder has been very supportive. She offered me
a young male to co-owne she wanted to see how he turned
out and could not keep him herself. I accepted and
though she said I didn't have to pay anything I felt
better paying something and I did but lower than low pet
price. My boy with limited showing has his majors and we
are only chaseing five single points now.
