Hi Rosanne,
The best thing I have ever done to keep the outside mud outside is putting a
patio attached to my screened in porch. Then sidewalks at the end of the
patio along to the end of the fence. Also a sidewalk off of this to my
outside dog house. The dog house is a little barn that is heated with their
crates in it and they go in and out all day long till I get home and then
they come in the house in the evening to be with us. All the dogs travel
the sidewalks when going outside to see who has pulled into the driveway or
what Kent is doing in the barn. They also travel them to the dog house.
They never get into the grass inless they have to potty or that they see
some animal outside the fenced area back yard that they have to chase and
bark at.
So the feet stay clean coming into the porch and the carpet on the porch
captures most of the water off the feet if it is raining outside before they
come into the house..
We had a really mud mess before the patio and sidewalks.
I would just stick to some kind of low nap cheep carpet on the porch and
change it every few years and concentrate on the track pattern of the dogs
when going outside. This cleaned up things immensely. We usually think of
how to keep the inside cleaner but in my case, cleaning up the outside was
the key.

Pam

Subject: [CKCS-L] flooring help

I would love your opinions for flooring help for a person who is silly
enough to keep somewhere around ten dogs. Imagine this scenario: Screened
in sun porch, thirty feet long, 12 feet wide. Doors at either end of porch
and door into family room. One door goes out to garden pond, and other dog
goes out into the doggy yard, which is grass and sometimes (gasp) mud! At
this point, the porch is covered in indoor/outdoor carpet and the base is, I
believe, probably heavy plywood. I want to replace this carpet with
something. This something must help clean the dog's feet as they come in
from either part of the yard. I want it to be easily cleaned, as doggy
bodily functions happen there! I have a lot of white wicker furniture on
the porch, if that makes a difference.
You may email me privately, please.

Thanks so much,
Rosanne
