I think linoleum is great - only thing I have seen happen with linoleum is
dogs can eat a hole in it IF you have destructive dogs. I have seen this in a
number of homes. One of mine choice to ignore my old linoleum and went right
for the wallpaper and drywall :)

I ended up putting down 20" square tiles in my/their kitchen (aka dog room)
and then also going up the walls to about 36" with 12" tiles and also tiling
the windowsills. This has worked really nice for me.

Two other ideas are staining your concrete - if the floor is an older area
you would probably have to pour a thin layer of concrete over the old. You
can do all sorts of wonderful things with patterns and stains now. I would
just make sure you seal this really well.

I believe list member Andrea Vest has a unique product down in her kitchen
area called marmoleum. It is a derivative (I believe) of marble and linoleum.
Very attractive.
