Hi Myra While the Breed Standard does not mention dewclaws, the Code of Ethics of the CKCSC, USA does. Under III Care and Transfer of Puppies and Dogs under subsection A #1 reads "Checking into the removal of dewclaws, including hind dewclaws if present. The CKCSC, USA strongly recommends the removal of front dewclaws." I am glad they do "strongly recommend" as I don't feel the average dog owner (be they breeder or pet owner) is diligent enough about cutting toenails. At least the normal toenails have a chance to wear down slightly - but a dewclaw is at a slight disadvantage :) Barb Hoorman Benchmark Cavaliers - TX ========================================================= "Magic Commands": to stop receiving mail for awhile, click here and send the email: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=SET%20CKCS-L%20NOMAIL to start it up gain click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=SET%20CKCS-L%20MAIL E-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] for assistance.
